Thoroughly enjoyed the morning session. Julie is a brilliant instructor, and made sure everyone felt comfortable taking part. There was a lovely friendly atmosphere and the time flew by. Looking forward to another session. Thank you Julie and Adele for coming up to Berwick!

What an amazing day I’ve had with Julie, Martin and the Strolls with poles family. Enjoying the sights and sounds of our wonderful Northumbrian coastline in the company of a fantastic group of people who always make you feel welcome. What a brilliant way to spend a Saturday.

Training Session

I’ve just had a training session with Julie which I must say was very thorough. She is very enthusiastic about Nordic Walking and the way she imparted her knowledge about it was most enjoyable. I’m really looking forward to going on my first walk with Stoll With Polls.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Strolls with Poles training walk at Wallington Hall on the morning of 5 March 2023. Everything about the way we were dealt with us was totally professional. From arrival we were warmly greeted and completed a questionnaire covering our health and necessary details.

Julie and Martin were excellent. They treated each of us with respect, showed interest in us and were really good at getting the basics across (even though I realised my co-ordination was even worse than I thought it was!), and encouraged and supported throughout the session.

It was a relaxed atmosphere; but at all times they monitored each individual and ensured that they were safe and not left to their own devices.

I intend to continue with this and hopefully get the hang of it! Highly recommended

Introduction to Nordic Walking

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with like-minded individuals to participate in Strolls with Poles training walk at Wallington Hall.

Julie and Martin succeeded in making the initial session both informative and fun. They were respectful of each individual and ensured that all ages and abilities were monitored , encouraged and supported throughout the session. The setting of Wallington Hall with its glorious grounds helped to make this a lovely experience!

I look forward to joining in, and to becoming more adept at Nordic Walking in the months to come.

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”

Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking style.  It uses a technique that is similar to the upper body action of cross country skiing.  Indeed this is where Nordic Walking stems from.

Nordic Walking becomes a whole body exercise which can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your age and fitness level.  From the gentler walking for health to the more athletic Nordic running.

More than 10 million people in over 40 countries around the world enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will Nordic Walking benefit me and my body?

Nordic Walking poles share the effort between your upper and lower body and combine the simplicity and accessibility of walking to create a full body low impact workout.

The benefits of Nordic Walking are:

  • it can release tension in your neck and shoulders
  • it will improve your posture and gait
  • you can strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
  • it can tone problem areas such as the upper arms (bingo wings) and abdominal muscles
  • it reduces the impact on your joints
  • It can be very effective for people with mobility issues or those recovering from illness or injury
  • you can burn from 20% up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic Walking poles
  • it actually feels easier than normal walking, particularly uphill because the effort is shared between the upper and lower body

Because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work
you will be happy to walk further and for longer.

Strolls With Poles – Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes

Last year (2022) we were asked if we would like to take part in a TV programme with Robson Green. Obviously, we said yes and back in October 2022, we had the pleasure of filming with Robson and the best selling author L J Ross (Louise). The clips below show our part in the show. …

Allen Banks – 6th Mar 2022

Allen Banks is one of our favourites as the scenery is always beautiful regardless of the time of year. The variation of a tarn, a wooded valley, a beautiful river and it’s bridges makes a wonderful walk. It’s a great place to visit.

Souter Lighthouse to South Shields – 20th Feb 2022

The walk from Souter Lighthouse to South Shields was a day of two halves. The walk out was better than expected. Sunny with showers but beautiful rainbows and moody skies made the already spectacular coast look even better.
