With trepidation I joined this group on Sunday 7th April, 2024. Why oh why? I was greeted with open arms and thoroughly enjoyed my day. Julie and Martin were fantastic and even arranged for the rain to stay away! Such fun Thank you

I am no spring chicken and I have rheumatoid arthritis but I like to get out in the countryside. I signed up for this training to increase the distance I could cover and with the excellent support of Julie and Martin and their Nordic poles I completed the course. A very satisfied customer. I will continue with this.

I really enjoy walking but with arthritis in my lower spine felt that I was in a downward cycle of gaining weight and becoming less active.

I have been thinking of trying Nordic walking and so glad I have. My training session was on Saturday and today ( with my borrowed poles) I have done another walk along Ross Sands which I really enjoyed and feel very motivated to contimue.

Great experience

My daughter and I tried Strolls with Poles on the recommendation of a ‘Gait Specialist’ to help her with her walking stability, and also for my self.

The day was wonderful and Julie and Martin were very attentive from the start. They were very inclusive with my daughter who couldn’t pick it up as easily as the main group. Julie’s understanding of her challenges was exceptional, and through her support my daughter felt she really had succeeded! We will definitely be joining other walks, although they may still need to be fairly short,

I attended my first session today. Julie and Martin are super helpful and friendly. They really go out of their way to accommodate individual needs and experience. We had a very friendly walk and lunch after. All very relaxed. You can borrow poles in the session and receive advice about them which makes it even easier to decide if it’s for you, without any pressure. I’ll be back !

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”

Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking style.  It uses a technique that is similar to the upper body action of cross country skiing.  Indeed this is where Nordic Walking stems from.

Nordic Walking becomes a whole body exercise which can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your age and fitness level.  From the gentler walking for health to the more athletic Nordic running.

More than 10 million people in over 40 countries around the world enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will Nordic Walking benefit me and my body?

Nordic Walking poles share the effort between your upper and lower body and combine the simplicity and accessibility of walking to create a full body low impact workout.

The benefits of Nordic Walking are:

  • it can release tension in your neck and shoulders
  • it will improve your posture and gait
  • you can strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
  • it can tone problem areas such as the upper arms (bingo wings) and abdominal muscles
  • it reduces the impact on your joints
  • It can be very effective for people with mobility issues or those recovering from illness or injury
  • you can burn from 20% up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic Walking poles
  • it actually feels easier than normal walking, particularly uphill because the effort is shared between the upper and lower body

Because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work
you will be happy to walk further and for longer.

Allen Banks – 6th Mar 2022

Allen Banks is one of our favourites as the scenery is always beautiful regardless of the time of year. The variation of a tarn, a wooded valley, a beautiful river and it’s bridges makes a wonderful walk. It’s a great place to visit.
