Bamburgh to Seahouses Walk – 3rd April 2021

The Bamburgh to Seahouses (and back of course) Walk is one of our regular ones. It does vary a little, depending on the tides, but whichever way we go it is great. The fish and chips at Seahouses only makes it better.

The Start

We always start at the top car park on the Wynding. It’s right next to the beach, so we can get straight on there. As there were some new people and everyone hadn’t been Nordic Walking for a while, we began with a training session. The training session was much appreciated but there was a cold breeze coming off the sea.

The Northumberland Coast Path

The tide wouldn’t be fully out until mid-afternoon. So, we chose to come off the beach via the dunes behind the Castle. A little way along the road, the Northumberland Coast Path heads off across the fields towards Seahouses. This part of the Coast Path is also on St Oswald’s Way.

We took this path and enjoyed being out of the cold breeze. Hats, gloves and big coats needed to be packed away here.

We encountered various stiles and gates along the way and tackled them all admirably. It wasn’t long before we arrived at the outskirts of Seahouses and took the path along the old railway line, towards Seahouses harbour.

Seahouses

Seahouses was our lunch stop. Several of us were looking forward to fish and chips, which we could enjoy eating on the benches overlooking the harbour. We even got a thank you from the fish and chip shop, for giving them some well needed custom.

Heading back

It was now mid-afternoon and the tide was as far out as it was going to get. We headed off along the path on top of the dunes until we could get down to the beach.

We were on the beach until the end of the walk now, apart from a little diversion over Greenhill Rocks. There was no way anyone was going to get lost, so everyone could go at their own pace. Some testing themselves at the front and others just enjoying a nice stroll at the back.

Back to the start

Before long we were back to where we had started. A quick cool down and then goodbyes. What a great first walk of the year.

Hope you enjoyed it. See you at the next one.
