When we first checked out this walk, we couldn’t find Routin Lynn, the waterfall close to Ford Moss. We weren’t far from it though, as we found when we did the walk this time.

We knew when we checked this walk out that it was a good one. The scenery is not just good but spectacular. This walk is the only one we’ve done that is wholly in Scotland, just. Despite being farther away than the other walks, it is well worth it the journey.

Looking back on Warkworth to Amble – Jan 2018

This is the first of the posts where we will look back on some of our walks. In this one we are looking back on Warkworth to Amble. Maybe it’ll help you remember and think about the next time you can get out. Hopefully soon.

Warkworth to Amble was the first walk that we did as Strolls With Poles and it was a very good one. There were a lot of you on this one and this definitely helped to make it one of the best.

Leki Nordic Walking gloves and straps

We are sometimes asked about the gloves or straps used with our favourite poles, Leki. So, we have produced this short article detailing the types of gloves available, the size options and the poles that they fit.

The choice of gloves/straps is confusing, as there are many similar types available and several attachment methods. These attachment methods are also used across the range of poles and not just on Nordic poles. So, as a result, some of the gloves look like the standard Nordic ones but are usually used on ski poles or trail poles.

If you are thinking of purchasing any of these gloves, try clicking on the images of them. Where possible, they will take you to Amazon, where they can be purchased.

Leki Nordic Walking poles

There are currently eighteen different Nordic Walking poles in the Leki range. We have listed them in order of RRP (Recommended Retail Price) here. We have also highlighted the key features of each pole and given a short review.

If you are thinking of purchasing poles, try clicking on the images of the poles. Where possible, they will take you to Amazon, where they can be purchased.

You might be asking “Why do they need eighteen different poles?” Well, they are all slightly different and have features and a price to suit everyone. If you feel that it’s all a bit confusing, we have written an article on how to choose Nordic Walking poles. This should shed some light on the differences and help you choose the best poles for you.

Many people ask us “which Nordic Walking poles should I buy?”. This is a difficult question to answer, as there are so many factors that should influence a purchase. There are also many manufacturers of Nordic Walking poles. Our current preference is Leki, mainly because we like the gloves and glove attachment as well as the pole adjustment mechanism.

“My muscles didn’t like getting out of bed this morning!”

“My muscles didn’t like getting out of bed this morning!”

Does this sound familiar?

This was a quote from a walker after our Christmas Nordic Walk. She rushed off before the stretching session.

The cool down is as important as the warm up!

We all know that the warm up prepares our muscles for the exercise we are about to enjoy. However the cool down is just as vital to help muscles to recover quicker.

When you do any exercise, lactic acid builds up in your muscles and this can lead to muscle soreness (also known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)).

The cool down after Nordic walking helps return your body to its resting state. It increases blood flow to your muscles and joints, which can help prevent soreness and allow your joints to move through their full range of motion. After your Nordic walk, you should always perform static stretches to reap these benefits.

What I would like to hear after every Nordic walk is “I wasn’t aching at all it shows how worthwhile taking the few minutes to stretch/cool down is!”
