Grasmere Gallop – 1st June 2019

Grasmere Gallop 2019 was the third Grasmere Gallop for several of us and we were looking forward to it. Most of us had come over to the Lakes on Friday, so that we could get a good nights rest and be fresh for the morning.

Registration

We arrived at the registration tent early on Saturday and registered in good time. Before long the others had turned up and got a group shot before the start.

And we’re off – Grasmere Gallop 2019 look out!

Before long the start was on us. We marched into the village with the rest and awaited the bell. No piper this time, which was a little disappointing, but never mind. When the bell rang we were off. Martin was going for it again, hoping to improve his time and maybe get placed in his category. The rest also set off quickly. No time even to take photographs on the way round.

The weather was perfect for this type of walk. Warm but cloudy with some drizzle. No overheating or sunburn today.

The finish

Ten kilometres and one and a half hours later, Martin crossed the finish line in 1 hour 29 minutes. A new PB. Now his job was to take the photos of the finishers. Soon after Donna arrived and then, within five minutes, Julie, Chris and Frankie came in. More PBs.

The next to arrive were Ruth and the other Chris, in around two hours. Then Mary and Ken, and finally the other Mary and Linda, all in respectable times and more PBs.

Take a look at the event web page for results and photographs.

Once we were all in, and had received our times, we decided to go get some lunch in town. Another great day and weekend away in the Lakes. Roll on next year.
