Description

Hackfall

Hackfall is an ancient woodland, set in a deep gorge, South of Masham, North Yorkshire.  It is a designated SSSI, covered in oak, beech, ash, sycamore and limes, that originate from the 18th century.  Bought in 1731 by John Aislabie, his son William transformed it, creating glades, temples, waterfalls and follies.

The Woodland Trust purchased the site in 1989 and set about restoring it.  Hackfall is beautiful and the bluebells will be out too.

We will start with a training session before our planned route  following the Hackfall Explorer Red route around the periphery of the whole site. Though challenging in places, it offers the opportunity to practice both uphill and down dale pole techniques.  One or two might even want to dip a toe in the river.

You are very welcome to join us afterwards for a brew & cake in the Grewelthorpe Community Cafe.
