Description

Happy Valley

HappyValley - HappyValley_26082016-24.jpg

Happy Valley is a favourite walk of ours.  We start at Carey Burn Bridge, in the Harthope Valley.  From here we cross the Harthope Burn and follow it downstream before turning right and ascending Brands Hill.

This is an excellent opportunity to practice Nordic Walking and feel the benefit of using Nordic Walking poles.

Brands Hill

The views from Brands Hill are panoramic, with The Cheviot and Hedgehope dominating the view to the South East.  Over Brands Hill is one of the routes up to Hedgehope (a walk for 2023).  From here we also see Happy Valley from above.

Middleton Old Town

From Brands Hill we follow the path down to Middleton Old Town.  There are still buildings here and, although they are very dilapidated, some interesting features can still be seen.

Happy Valley and the Harthope Burn

The next leg is down to the road and along, through North Middleton, to the Burn.  We will cross the bridge by the ford and then follow the valley along the North bank of Harthope Burn, back to Carey Burn Bridge.

Tea shop

We will likely visit The Terrace Cafe or the tearoom in Glendale Garden Centre in Wooler after the walk.

Hope you can join us.

Parking: Follow the road (next to the antiques shop) towards Wooler Youth Hostel and continue past the entrance. Take the left turn towards Earle and on towards Middleton Hall. At Middleton Hall take a road off to the right. If you reach a sharp left hand bend, you have missed the turning. The road that you take is steep, single track and rough. Follow this road up the hill, past a building on the right and then down the hill. Round the corner at the bottom of the hill, there is a grassy area on the right side of the road. This is the car park.
