My first walk was Bamburgh to Seahouses and back which was a beautiful, exhilarating walk.
My second Stroll with Poles was Allen Banks this last Sunday four seasons in one day but stunning.
The group is very friendly and supportive, you can have a chat and a laugh and get fit at the same time 😃 as well as seeing amazing scenery.
Julie and Martin are the heart of the group and are fantastic at what they do and lovely people too..
Love this group and will keep going and you will not regret joining us for a walk..

First Nordic Walk for me – Allen Banks

What a beautiful location for my first Nordic Walking experience. Julie made us newbies so welcome and after some initial training and group warm-up, we were off!
As a group of approximately 15 and varying levels of competency, I was pleased to see how the group were encouraged to walk at their own pace. We had a lead walker in Martin and Julie followed at the rear to support us slightly slower peeps.
All the walkers were really friendly and encouraged each other along the stunning walk through Allen Banks. I will definitely be along again soon to experience Nordic Walking in the beautiful Northumberland countryside.
Thank you Strolls with Poles x

Recent walks with Strolls with Poles have been amazing. The walk round Holy Island (while it was cut off by the tide) was beautiful. Then the walk round Rothbury was simply stunning. Walking with this group is always brilliant, great fun, many varied routes, and even the weather is usually kind. Looking forward to the coastal walk at Low Newton and Beadnell this weekend. Thank you Julie and Martin

What is Nordic Walking?

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”.  Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience.  With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuine whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running.  More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will it benefit my body?

Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you:

> burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic walking poles
> release tension in the neck and shoulders
> improve your posture and gait
> strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
> reduce the impact on the joints

And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.

Allen Banks walk – 11th Apr 2021

The Allen Banks walk is always beautiful and enchanting any time of the year. This time it was April and we were expecting a spring day. However, the weather had other ideas and gave us a winter day. Luckily, this one was a good winter’s day.

Bamburgh to Seahouses Walk – 3rd April 2021

The Bamburgh to Seahouses (and back of course) Walk is one of our regular ones. It does vary a little, depending on the tides, but whichever way we go it is great. The fish and chips at Seahouses only makes it better.

Strolls with Poles – Coronavirus November lockdown

As everyone is aware the Government have announced a November lockdown from 5 November. Sadly we have cancelled all walks and training sessions in November and hope to be out and about in December, in time for our Christmas walk. We will of course, be keeping you up to date with any developments.
