I’ve been with Julie’s amazing group from the beginning. I’ve missed the walks so much and can’t wait to get out with everyone again, it’s really a lovely group of people.
We have been on some absolutely beautiful walks. I would definitely recommend coming along and trying out one of the walks no matter what your fitness. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Nothing can beat getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the very best our amazing coast and countryside has to offer. Unless of course you can do it with a fantastic group of likeminded people – that’s why I love Strolls with Poles. Everyone is so friendly and whether seasoned pro or total novice there’s a place in the group for you.

A long time out

I have been with the group since it started and looked forward to going out walking. It is a very friendly group and what I like is you are not pushed, you go at your own pace as everyone has an off day. A lot of new members will not know me as I have been dogged with injury (my foot). I am recovering from my 2nd operation on it and it is going okay so far, it was a case of finding the right footwear, boots only. Looking forward to getting going again and getting some more great walks in. Let’s hope it is soon!! In the meantime, keep safe and see you all soon. Best wishes Bob x

What is Nordic Walking?

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”.  Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience.  With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuine whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running.  More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will it benefit my body?

Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you:

> burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic walking poles
> release tension in the neck and shoulders
> improve your posture and gait
> strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
> reduce the impact on the joints

And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.

Getting back to Nordic Walking Beach Walk – 27 June 2020

The Getting Back to Nordic Walking Beach Walk was our first walk back together following the Covid-19 pandemic. When we asked everyone where they would like the first walk to be the answer was overwhelming. The beach at Cresswell.

Walking post COVID-19

We are looking at walking post Covid-19. During the Covid-19 pandemic we put our programme on hold.  This was a difficult time for us as well as for our wonderful group of walkers, the Nordic Nuts. I have kept in touch with as many of the group as possible, during this time.  It has been …

Nordic walking and mental health

During the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown, which resulted in the cessation of our walks, I have had a lot of time to think about my own mental health and, in turn, the mental health of others.  Being outdoors, when you can, keeping busy and keeping in contact with friends and family, are all important.
