I’ve been with Julie’s amazing group from the beginning. I’ve missed the walks so much and can’t wait to get out with everyone again, it’s really a lovely group of people.
We have been on some absolutely beautiful walks. I would definitely recommend coming along and trying out one of the walks no matter what your fitness. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Nothing can beat getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the very best our amazing coast and countryside has to offer. Unless of course you can do it with a fantastic group of likeminded people – that’s why I love Strolls with Poles. Everyone is so friendly and whether seasoned pro or total novice there’s a place in the group for you.

A long time out

I have been with the group since it started and looked forward to going out walking. It is a very friendly group and what I like is you are not pushed, you go at your own pace as everyone has an off day. A lot of new members will not know me as I have been dogged with injury (my foot). I am recovering from my 2nd operation on it and it is going okay so far, it was a case of finding the right footwear, boots only. Looking forward to getting going again and getting some more great walks in. Let’s hope it is soon!! In the meantime, keep safe and see you all soon. Best wishes Bob x

What is Nordic Walking?

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”.  Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience.  With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuine whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running.  More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will it benefit my body?

Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you:

> burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic walking poles
> release tension in the neck and shoulders
> improve your posture and gait
> strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
> reduce the impact on the joints

And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.

Around Rothbury – 8th August 2020

We’ve been walking in the Rothbury area for many years. It is beautiful and, even very close to Rothbury, there are plenty of very varied routes. So, for this one, we tried to take the best of all the routes, but avoiding the most challenging paths. I think we achieved that, and the weather just …

Virtual Kiltwalk

Chris, Ruth and Julie are taking part in the Virtual Kiltwalk on Saturday 12 September to raise monies for Cancer Research UK. The Virtual Kiltwalkers will be walking from Craster to Lesbury and yes they will be wearing kilts!

Hulne Park – 1st August 2020

Hulne Park was once the Percy family’s walled hunting ground and hunting still takes place today.  We welcomed two new walkers, Claire and Brian and welcomed back Annabelle.
